Many people want the benefits of braces not but necessarily the aesthetics. Thanks to clear aligners, it is possible to achieve the functionality of braces and retainers while having a smile you can always feel confident about. At Chichetti & Patel Dental Wellness we want to provide options for patients so they can choose what works best for their needs.
Clear Aligners - What The Big Deal Is
Clear aligners braces are clear mouthpieces made of a special plastic called SmartTrack that is both comfortable to wear and just as effective as traditional braces when it comes to straightening out the teeth over time. They are removable by the user, making it a flexible option for those who want a small break from the feeling of wearing braces while eating.
The primary benefit of clear aligners braces is the fact they are transparent. There are many people who want the help braces provide but are unwilling to get traditional braces - this is who clear aligner is suited for.
In addition to them coming in the form of braces, they can also be made into retainers after the user is done with the wearing period of the braces and thus the user will not have to change their habits - they will be able to continue wearing Invisalign as they were initially doing throughout their entire treatment process.
Is Clear Aligners Right For You?
Many of our patients happily wear Invisalign braces. But there are things to consider before choosing them for your needs.
Like with traditional braces, clear aligner braces need to be worn all day - 22 hours a day in fact. The 2-hour window is enough for snacks/meals, but if you like curling up with popcorn and watching a movie or binge-watching your favorite show, you may not be too keen on this idea. In order for the braces to properly do their intended job, they must provide continuous, gentle pressure to the teeth which is a long process overall. Failing to wear your braces for the proper amount of time each day will start defeating the purpose of the braces. However, if you keep wearing them as intended, we think you will be very happy.
If you feel that clear aligner braces will affect your routine, there are lingual braces to consider. These are similar to traditional braces but they are placed behind the teeth instead of in the front. This makes them practically invisible unless someone is looking into your mouth at certain angles. And since they will be in your mouth permanently until removed at the clinic, you won’t have to worry about how many hours you have worn them.
Clear aligners on average cost less than lingual braces, often by as much as around $2000 or more. Traditional braces are significantly less expensive than either, however. Insurance providers will usually pay a certain amount of the cost for orthodontic treatment.
