Bonding is a cosmetic dentistry service that we offer at Chichetti & Patel Dental Wellness to help give people the smile that they are seeking. If you have unwanted gaps or chipped teeth, then bonding can be the solution for you. This is excellent for those who have either one or a few teeth that are in need of repair.
What You Need To Know About Bonding
The bonding procedure involves a resin being applied and bonded to the tooth. The first step in the process involves the tooth being roughened to enable the resin to attach more easily. It is then heated with light to allow it to harden and finally, additional polishing and shaping is done to match the aesthetics of a tooth. Overall, the procedure is smooth and you can walk out with a gorgeous smile in an afternoon. The time it takes to complete the process depends on how many teeth are being treated. It should take around 45 minutes per tooth. Having this procedure done makes a lot of sense if you have 1-3 teeth that need fixing due to the cost benefits over veneers for example.
How Much Will This Cost?
Depending on multiple factors, the procedure can cost anywhere between $350 - $600. If this is done for structural reasons, then insurance can cover this cost. However, for cosmetic dentistry, it will need to be paid for by the patient.
How Long Will The Bonded Tooth Last?
The bonded tooth will have a similar lifespan to resin fillings and you can expect up to 10 years of use before repairs are needed again. This depends on the location of the tooth and how well it is cared for. Ideally, you’ll want to avoid putting too much wear on the resin material. For example, if you have had a front tooth receive bonding treatment, limiting biting using that tooth can extend the lifetime of the material.
When Do Alternatives Make Sense?
If you have 4 or more teeth that you want to be touched up for cosmetic purposes, veneers might be a better option. Veneers are porcelain shells that are placed over your visible natural teeth to give you a white, well-shaped smile. Resin veneers are lower in cost than porcelain - typically coming in at a similar price range to bonding, but they won’t last quite as long as porcelain which can last the user up to 15 years.
You can also consider crowns for cosmetic dentistry. A porcelain crown is especially durable and long-lasting and doesn’t require quite as much thought into how often you are using the tooth for biting and chewing. In addition to this, porcelain looks strikingly similar to teeth in appearance - even more so than resin. It can be difficult even when looking closely to tell a porcelain crown apart from organic teeth.!
