Why We Refer to Dental Specialists

Posted on 10/25/2021 by Amy Chichetti
Why We Refer to Dental SpecialistsA dentist performs procedures that involve the mouth and the teeth of a patient. During a dental checkup, the dentist will identify problems that are affecting the teeth or the mouth. If the case is beyond the dentist he or she will recommend you to a special dentist either an oral or maxillofacial surgeon.

General Dentist

A general dentist can provide both primary and preventive dental care. Even if you don't have any oral or dental issues, you should see a dentist regularly. They perform a general examination to see if your health is in good shape. Adults and children should see a dentist regularly for cleanings, X-rays, and oral screenings to see if their oral health is in good shape. When you visit the dentist regularly, the dentist can detect gum disease before it becomes a health problem. A dentist can assist in the detection of ailments such as gum disease, root canals, and cosmetic makeovers. Veneers, crowns, and fillings are just a few of the operations a dentist can perform.

Oral Surgeon

The dentist will refer you to a specialist if they feel that the condition a patient suffers from is more complicated than they can handle. An oral surgeon deals with issues that affect the mouth, and the mouth in general. An oral surgeon has more advancement in training and has more experience in oral issues than performing any dental surgery procedure. Dental surgery involves a series of procedures that a dentist performs in the mouth of a patient.

Maxillofacial Surgeon

A maxillofacial surgeon can assist you with oral concerns involving the jaw and face. Many people are confused as to why a general dentist will not assist with concerns involving the face and jaw. If a dentist determines that your condition necessitates jaw or facial surgery, they will always send you to a maxillofacial surgeon. Visit us to see either of our specialists for optimal oral care
