Encourage Your Teens To Be Proactive About Their Oral Health
At Chichetti & Patel Dental Wellness, we encourage our patients of all ages to maintain proper oral hygiene between appointments in our office. This is particularly important for our younger patients. If you have a child in your life, you know that it can be difficult to get them to clean their teeth properly. We encourage parents to assist their children with brushing and flossing their teeth to ensure that they are clean. As children grow into teenagers, they want to navigate their oral health on their own. We want to help our teenage patients understand the harm they can cause to their teeth when they are not cared for properly.
Help Teens Create Good Habits
Navigating the teen years can be difficult for the teenager and their parents and loved ones alike. Teenagers are known for testing boundaries as they make their way into adulthood. Whether you have a teenager in your home or not, you most likely remember your teenage years and the feeling of longing for independence. The best thing that you can do for your teen in terms of their oral health is to encourage healthy habits and stress the importance of cleaning their teeth properly. Visits to our office for oral hygiene examinations every six months are recommended.
Making poor oral health choices as a teen can follow you through to adulthood. It is not uncommon for patients who experience decay as a child or teen to continue to see recurring issues with their oral health as adults. Aside from brushing and flossing, here are some other helpful tips that you can share with your teen:
- Drink water instead of sodas and sports drinks
- Choose nutritious snacks over fast food and less nutritious options
- Wear a mouthguard when playing any sport
If you, your teen, or another loved one has not visited our office located in Charlotte, NC recently for a hygiene examination, we encourage you to call today to schedule an appointment. Be sure to notify our office if you have any concerns. We look forward to seeing you and your family soon!
